The New York Rangers have an elite goalie, Igor Shesterkin. During his short career in the NHL, he has proven himself to be a reliable contributor in the regular, and postseason.

This has earned him the praise of a former Stanley Cup winner, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie, Anthony Stolarz.

Shesterkin has been a sensation since he arrived in 2020-2021 and has given us many highlight reel saves during his career.

He helped push the New York Rangers to the Eastern Conference Finals, twice, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers consecutively.

His career totals are as follows 138-59-18, with a 2.42 GAA, and a .921 save percentage.

Elite totals by any means in the NHL, and he has only one thing left to accomplish and that is winning a Stanley Cup.

Shesterkin is riding high on those totals and has recently rejected an $88 Million deal, for 8 years. A contract that puts him far above Carey Price, and other goalies like Jake Oettinger, and even Connor Hellebuyck.

Stolarz would comment on Shesterkin himself:

Shesterkin put up a goalie clinic against the Maple Leafs on Saturday, making 34 saves on 35 shots, and keeping the Rangers in the game.

Berube went the same route as Sheldon Keefe when it came to trying to defeat Shesterkin either. Which was to pepper him with shots, and get a lot of traffic in front of the net.

Honestly, with Shesterkin being the best goalie in the NHL currently, even without two cups like Andrei Vasilevskiy, he will bet on himself this season. If he helps the Rangers win a cup this season, he could fetch far more than $11 Million on the open market, so it'd be best for GM Chris Drury to sign Shesterkin while he's still cheap.

He's remained open to signing a deal in New York "if the price is right" and maybe Drury and company should open that wallet wider.

It's only ironic that Stolarz was part of the Panthers team that knocked the Rangers out of the playoffs. A huge compliment from a season goalie in the NHL.
