Matt Rempe set to take on massive role in the AHL after being assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack
The New York Rangers have announced a significant roster transaction on Thursday night after a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers.
The New York Rangers announced that they have sent Matt Rempe down to the Rangers AHL Affiliate team, the Hartford Wolfpack. This decision comes after Rempe only played in just two of the Rangers first seven games and only averaged 5:39 minutes.
The Rangers have assigned Matt Rempe to the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack 👀
Despite that this may look like a demotion, it certainly isn't as Rempe really needs the chance to get more ice time and work on his skills, even head coach Peter Laviolette believes Rempe will deeply benefit from this:
«He has an opportunity to play some games, and play some minutes, to continue his development. I think that's really important for a young player. I think going down and playing more minutes, having more responsibility, builds growth inside of a player.»
Laviolette also confirmed that Rempe would in fact be in the lineup for the Wolf Pack tonight and would gain more minutes of ice time.
Despite many fans being upset over this decision, it will entirely benefit the 22-year old forwards career in the long run as he will improve his overall performance.
Along with that defenseman Chad Ruhwedel was also assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack today as he was placed on waivers by the New York Rangers.
