According to recent reports from NHL insider, and Sportsnet analyst Elliotte Friedman, the New York Rangers have placed Chad Ruhwedel on waivers s for assignment to AHL Hartford.
If the 34-year old defenseman clears waivers and is assigned to the Rangers AHL affiliate team, The Hartford Wolfpack, it will be his first AHL appearance since the 2018-19 season. Chad Ruhwedel has been a solid bottom pairing defenseman for the last nine years of his career.
Ruhwedel spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and then was traded to the New York Rangers by Pittsburgh for a 4th-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, back on March 8, 2024.
Last season Ruhwedel made 5 appearances for the Rangers and didn't manage to put up and points, and has only made one appearance this year with the Rangers, along with not putting up any points in that one game.
However, with the Rangers placing Ruhwedel on waivers, this means newcomer Victor Mancini has earned a permanent spot in the Rangers roster as the seventh defenseman alongside Zac Jones.
