New York Rangers newly acquired forward issues statement on joining the organization
The newest New York Ranger has arrived in Madison Square Garden. Arthur Kaliyev was the latest forward claimed off of waivers by GM Chris Drury, and after practice, he engaged in a media scrum, where he got to make a statement about his excitement to play with the Rangers.
The New York Rangers have practiced addition by subtraction this season, as we've seen them part ways with Jacob Trouba, and Kaapo Kakko.
Now, the team added a depth forward who was claimed from the Los Angeles Kings, Arthur Kaliyev.
Kaliyev was selected in the 2nd round of the 2019 NHL Draft and has found himself battling for a spot in the Kings lineup. Now, he'll get a fresh start in the Rangers lineup, and he's excited about joining his hometown club.
Kaliyev moved to Staten Island with his parents when he was two. He's always been a fan of the Rangers it sounds like.
«I didn't expect it obviously, but it's kind of like a dream come true,» Kaliyev said Tuesday. «We grew up watching (the Rangers) obviously living down here for a long time. I didn't expect it but I'm really excited, and a little bit nervous, it was awesome I used to come watch games here too, so it's crazy - not much more words you can say.»
Who's Kaliyev's favorite Ranger? He likes Rick Nash the most, followed by Patrick Kane.
As someone who has been a lifelong hockey fan, can't fault him for choosing Nash, he's been an underrated NHLer since his start in the league.
Kaliyev joins the Rangers during a tumultuous period in the history of the original-six squad.
He has played 188 games in the NHL and has scored 71 points( 35 G, 36 A) and according to Newsday's Colin Stephenson, he took rushes on the 3rd line with Brett Berard and Jonny Brodzinski.
