New York Rangers rookie Brett Berard gets tossed from the game after a ridiculous call
The New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers prospects faced each other earlier today in the rookie tournament.
While the two teams were battling it out, New York Rangers prospect Brett Berard got tossed from the game over a ridiculous call.
Late in the second period, with 5:05 remaining in the clock, a scuffle broke out near the flyers net and Brett Berard gets a five minute major and a game misconduct for «spearing».
Yes Berard does make contact with the opposing player with his stick, but to say it was a spear is outrageous. Maybe Berard poked him, but there doesn't appear to be any intent to injury the other player.
However, Adam Edstrom would keep things alive for the Rangers as he scored the short handed goal, that tied the game up and led to an overtime.
Unfortunately despite the Rangers efforts to bring the game into OT, Samu Tuomaala of the Philadelphia Flyers managed to score the game winning goal just 33 seconds into overtime, making the final 3-2 for the Flyers.
