After their disappointing exit in the NHL playoffs, general manager Chris Drury made it clear that nothing is off the table regarding trades, signings or moving their first-round pick as the NHL draft is less than 24 hours away.
There's a sense that Drury does not intend to run the team back as it stands now as flaws, were continuing to show in their offence especially five on five. With the Rangers holding the 30th pick overall it's likely Drury would like to trade up to improve his chances to land a better player.
Completing that move allowed Drury to have $3.6 million back in his coffers which now puts the Rangers at 12.8 million for unrestricted free agency and retaining any other restricted free agents on the roster. Other rumors have surfaced regarding Kaapo Kaako being used in a package deal to move up in the draft.
The Rangers only have one draft pick between the first round and the fourth round and with the appetite for change and retooling, it's likely Drury will look at all avenues to acquire another draft pick between those numbers as there are many players within that could help the Rangers down the road.
