The New York Islanders are off to just of a rough start as the Rangers, which has ultimately led to them making some major waiver moves as placed former first-round pick Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers.
The Islanders have placed two forwards on waivers, the first being Pierre Engvall who seems to be struggling in the NHL, and is likely to return to the AHL as he already has one completely season there.
The second option, and the more intriguing player is 24-year old Oliver Wahlstrom, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Wahlstrom is a player with pretty decent size and good talent that the New York Rangers could really benefit from.
In Wahlstrom's first two seasons he showed lots of potential with 21 points and the 24 points, but since then the kid has hit a snag in performance, ultimately leading the islanders to place him on waivers.
However, the 24-year old still has plenty of potential and just needs a fresh start.
Oliver Wahlstrom is signed to a 1 year, $1,000,000 contract with a cap hit of $1,000,000 per season. He signed his contract on July 25, 2024, and expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Making him a really affordable player for the New York Rangers considering they just dumped Jacob Trouba and his $8 million cap hit.
