Rangers advance to second round after sweeping Capitals
It was the first step in the Rangers journey to break the 30-year drought between Stanley Cup wins as the blue shirts went on to defeat the Washington Capitals 4-2 which led the Rangers to sweep them out of the playoffs 4-0.
Prior to this game many expected the Rangers to try to finish off this series as fast as possible to rest and wait for the winner of the Carolina - New York Islanders series. Others felt that the Capitals had some fight left in them and try to save their season which did not happen.
The Rangers were determined to play a strong defensive game in front of Igor Shesterkin along with shutting down capitals captain and superstar Alexander Ovechkin. The Rangers were successful on all fronts can continue to improve throughout the four games played.
The team now will be idle for at least up until Tuesday when the Hurricanes are back home to face the Islanders in their Game 5. With a strong record at home and an unbelievable Freddie Andersen along with their offence, the Islanders will have all they can handle as the Hurricanes look to defeat them in five and move on to play the Rangers.
