An intriguing conversation took place on the Spittin Chiclets latest episode when former NHLer Matt Murley felt that the Vancouver Canucks will not win the Stanley Cup with Quinn Hughes as their main defenseman. Murley states his reasons which led to a heated discussion off camera between several hosts.
Murley's biggest stance is the notion that every team that wins the Stanley Cup has a large defenceman who can carry the load and go through 4 rounds of playoffs after playing 82 games in the season. Hughes, who stands at 5 foot 10180 lbs certainly does not fit the description that Murley lays out and thru 3 games played, He has four assists and no goals.
Fellow host Ryan Whitney weighed in after Murley's explanation and said that the Oilers have a chance since they have Mattias Ekholm who stands at six foot 5 and 225 lbs.
It's worth noting that other top defenseman in the playoffs include Cale Makar standing at 6'0 187 Lbs, Roman Josi at 6'1" 201 Lbs and Evan Bouchard at 6'3" 192lb to name a few.
It remains to be seen if Murley is right, But we have a long way to go in the playoffs and the Canucks have gone up 2-1 in their series after winning tonight 2-1 against the Predators.
