Rangers GM Chris Drury Looking to Unload Multiple Contracts In Order to Acquire Star NHLer
The New York Rangers will be sellers at the latest trade deadline according to reports from DailyFaceOff's Frank Seravalli. As the team sits at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, they hope to revive their playoff hopes.
While there's been no discussion of what is next in the playbook for GM Chris Drury, the Rangers will make major moves at the deadline.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, he feels that the team will trend towards being sellers at the deadline.
They will look to unload multiple contracts of pending RFAs and UFAs, which include Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey, Will Borgen, and Jonathan Quick.
Emily Kaplan adds more context into the next steps:
«Peter Laviolette and Chris Drury still have support from ownership and they are going to work to continue to re-shape this roster,» Kaplan said. «That means unloading more contracts, but also using more of that cap space to bring players in, either in hockey trades or free agency this summer.
«A common theme for any players brought to the Rangers is going to be physicality. Meat and potatoes ia a term I've heard the Rangers' front office has used a lot lately.»
It's hard for Frank Servalli to think that the Rangers will be quiet at the deadline, as they're 17-19-1 and 7th in the Metropolitan Division.
«Right now, they're trending to be sellers,» Seravalli said. «But, I still don't believe that Chris Drury is going to sit back and do nothing.
«I think they're going to be buyers for the long haul, but maybe not fixing this season, if that makes any sense.»
While GM Chris Drury has already unloaded significant cap space, with the trades of Kaapo Kakko, and Jacob Trouba the team isn't done yet.
With the endorsement of James Dolan and ownership, he continues the mandate to improve the Rangers lineup any way possible.
Which looks like, could end up a quick re-tool for the team.
The Rangers have $8.574 Million in salary cap space and are in the hunt for a 1C, who could it be? JT Miller or Elias Pettersson?
