The New York Rangers would make a major trade this week, and in addition to receiving J.T. Miller, they'd get defenseman Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington from Vancouver. While we know where J.T. Miller would slot in, GM Chris Drury let us know what will happen with defenseman Erik Brannstrom.

The New York Rangers acquired defenseman Erik Brannstrom in the trade with the Vancouver Canucks.
While we know where superstar J.T. Miller will slot into the Rangers lineup, we're not so sure where Brannstrom will end up.
This season in Vancouver, he'd only play 28 games with the Canucks scoring only 8 points (3 G, 5 A).
He'd split his time between the NHL and AHL, as he'd play 8 games in Abbotsford scoring 10 points (2 G, 8 A). You wanna know if Brannstrom will find his way into the Rangers' blue line considering how it's been dismantled recently right?
According to GM Chris Drury Brannstrom won't be finding a spot in the Rangers lineup. He'll serve as a call-up in the AHL with the Wolfpack, a similar position he was in, with the Vancouver Canucks.
If you don't know what Brannstrom's game is like, here's an idea.
As an offensive defenseman, he has all the tools for success. He is an excellent skater, can carry the puck, make plays and quarterback the power play. It is his play when he is not involved in the attack that has held him back. He is not very physical and has to improve markedly in his own zone for his offensive skills to come to the fore.
Considering the Rangers did move Victor Mancini, they'll need to restock their depth in the AHL, and we're assuming that is part of Brannstrom's purpose in New York.
Brannstrom has been a fringe NHLer at best during his short tenure in the league, and a call-up for the majority of his time with the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks.
Now, he'll have to work his way up the depth charts, as the Rangers are flush with blue liners with the recent additions of Urho Vaakanainen, and Will Borgen.
Brannstrom's $900K contract will expire at the end of the season and will be an RFA.
