Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette spoke to the media after losing game six against the Florida Panthers and reflected on his first year as head coach of the presidents trophy winners.

It was a disappointing end to a fantastic season as the Rangers looked dominant through large portions of the year and into the first few rounds of the playoffs. Unfortunately, their fortunes ran out along with their offence has several key stars could not find a way to put the puck in the net consistently including Mika Zibanejad, Chris kreider, artemi panarin and Vincent Trocheck.

«Listen, our guys fought this year,» Laviolette said. «They bought in right from the start. It's disappointing; when you start something like this you don't do it to get three wins in the playoffs or five wins in the playoffs. You do it to go the whole way.»

The Rangers quickly transformed into a far better team compared to the team last year which lost in the first round to the New Jersey Devils. They seemed more balanced and had better depth as general manager Chris Drury tried to address his issues especially at the trade deadline.

However, the power play was all but anemic, and lack of scoring from their top six the Rangers simply could not overcome the Panthers and goaltender Igor Shesterkin did all he can to keep them in the series.

It's safe to say that Laviolette had a great season and is looking forward to next year as the Rangers will begin their offseason with the draft and having eighteen players signed for next year and holding $11.3 million in cap space.
