Shesterkin managed a 2.28 GAA and an impressive .927 save percentage despite facing defeat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
However the 28-year old Russian goaltender is now able to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the next season, and he and his camp are looking to seal a massive extension from the Rangers.
With Shesterkin's next deal he's looking to surpass his fellow player Artemi Panarin's $11,642.857 a year salary to become the Ranger's highest paid player.
Mollie Walker of the New York Post suggests Shesterkin's camp is looking for $12M AAV on his next contract. Igor and the Ranger will be able to start negotiating on July 1st.
If Igor Shesterkin is able to pull off this deal with the Rangers it would simply make history as it would be the highest a goalie has ever been paid. The record is currently Carey Price's eight-year deal with Montreal that carried an average annual value of $10.5 million for a total value of $84 million.
The Rangers have not been one to be afraid of dishing out money in the goaltending position. Henrik Lundqvist was the Rangers highest paid goalies throughout his career with the team, earning his largest payday in December 2013, signing a seven-year $59.5M ($8.5M cap hit) deal.
