The New York Rangers have recently signed RFA Alexis Lafreniere, and have made sure he'll be a Blueshirt for some time.

But the team has other RFA's they will have to lock down long-term, and one of them is goalie Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin had turned away an $88 Million deal in hopes of securing a deal that pays him even more than Artemi Panarin.

So what exactly is the hold-up between GM Chris Drury, and the elite goalie's agent, Maxim Moliver?

Could the duo hold out until the end of the season before they sign a new deal?

Stranger things have happened in the NHL, and let's not forget William Nylander held out for a new deal with the Maple Leafs. It paid off.

According to Stan Fischler:

Should the Rangers - Hey! It could happen - win The Stanley Cup, I could see Slapsy Maxie Moliver demanding a stratospheric $14 million from the MSG National Bank; and it's 50-50 he'll get it.
This is quite an optimistic idealization of what could happen, as many teams in the NHL don't quite have the cap space yet to sign their top players.

Could this be another scenario of why Shesterkin hasn't been extended yet?

But what if Shesty fails again, or is injured? As Thatcher Demko has proven in Vancouver, top goalies go down all over the place, and some never get up.

Then, all bets are off.

So, until Drury inks Iggy, the glorious GM is batting .500 - and that may be good enough for You, but not me!

As Fischler points out yet again, that goalies are infallible, and GM's invincible and I think the point has been made that they're in a stalemate.

The only difference is, that, unlike Swayman's situation the New York Rangers have the decorum not to go public.

But in Boston, I guess all bets were off.

For now, it's a matter of speculation and impatience with what happens next with Igor Shesterkin.

The Rangers need him for deep postseason runs, and he's the only shot they have at it unless Dylan Garand is the second coming of Hank.

Doubt it though.
