37-year old Russian hockey player Artem Tortochakov tragically passes away after brutal fight

37-year old Russian hockey player tragically passes away after being involved in a fight outside of a nightclub.

The hockey community is mourning the loss of 37-year old Artem Tortochakov, after a brawl broke out one night, ultimately leading to Tortochakov passing away due to traumatic brain injuries.

The police are still investigating the incident but the information that has been public is the following, Artem Tortochakov is a player in the HC Metallurg system who passed away while at the hospital on the night of November 3rd. Along with a witness stating that he got into a fight with another man outside the nightclub.

According to Ria Novatsi, an investigation has officially begun.

"The press service of the Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti that a criminal case has been opened against a 25-year-old resident of Abakan regarding the death of a 37-year-old man as a result of a fight. According to investigators, on the night of November 3, the deceased and the suspect had a fight while near one of the entertainment establishments in Abakan. Afterwards, the suspect struck the victim several times with his hands and a kick in the head. Then the fight moved further away from the establishment.

The victim was taken to the hospital, however, despite the resuscitation measures taken, it was not possible to save the man."

According to a forensic expert, who told Ria Novatsi that Artem Tortochakov passed due to a traumatic brain injury.

A source in the investigative committee told RIA Novosti that there was a conflict between 37-year-old hockey player Artem Tortochakov and a 25-year-old resident of Abakan, which led to the death of the athlete."

As of now there is no update on how long the investigation will take.
