Jacob Trouba's tenure has been in a downturn since last season on Broadway. He's been a strong Captain, who isn't afraid to throw the body and has been a stalwart on the roster, since his arrival in 2019. But last season saw Chris Drury and the Rangers try to part ways with the Captain.

This resulted in a drawn-out scandal, in which Trouba would nix a trade with the Rangers in order to support his wife, during her residency in New York.
He's back for 2024-2025 however and will once again try and attempt to help the Blueshirts win a Stanley Cup.
Despite the off-season drama, Trouba can try and win the Rangers fan's hearts back, but it will take time and effort.
The Rangers haven't given the "C" to someone else, since GM Chris Drury feels that Trouba is still up to the job. Free agency was unkind to the 30-year-old defenseman and before his downturn, he was a 200-ft defenseman and a legitimate fan favorite here.

Comeback season?

Could Trouba be primed for a comeback for the 2024-2025 season? 2023-2024 was a season of career lows that saw him lapse into infamy with fans. Despite this, he'd march on, playing through a broken ankle that plagued him since March.
He could find a way to mount a comeback, which would mean a lot of practice during the offseason. His 2023-2024 totals saw him score 22 points( 3 G, 19 A) an 11-year career low.
Of course, everyone loves a comeback, and it could be a Cinderella story, for Trouba to find his game again and be the man to lead the Rangers to a Cup. He will need to improve in one area though.
For context, his CF% in 2023-24 was a distinguishable 50.1, which is near the highest throughout his career. But, then that number plummeted to an abysmal 47.2, which was the worst for all Rangers defensemen to play more than 69 games.

Most importantly, Trouba wants to be a New York Rangers, which may have been the main motivation for him to nix a trade.

Trouba will have to dig deep and find his resolve to turn his game around and find a way to stay relevant on a Rangers lineup that needs to win or die as this could be the end of the core as we know it, in his own words.
