The Ranger's provide an update regarding Brennan Othmann's status following ongoing injury

The New York Rangers have missed 16th overall pick Brennan Othmann in their lineup. NHL Insider Mollie Walker provides us an update on the prospect's upper-body injury.
The New York Rangers expected prospect Brennan Othmann to be out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks. This was at the end of October, but according to NHL Insider Mollie Walker, we've gotten some positive news about the forward.
Othmann was reported to be skating in a non-contact jersey in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack. Where he's been since being reassigned to the club after training camp ended.
While it's great news that he's skating in a non-contact jersey, his timeline to return to the ice has been extended to the Christmas holiday.
Coming off of a year where Othmann played 67 games where he recorded 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 points for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, he was expected to build off of that success
Othmann's successful season in the AHL last year led many to speculate that he'd earn a spot on the Rangers regular lineup in 2024-2025.
But Head CoachPeter Laviolette wanted Othmann to get more playing time in the AHL, rather than being a regular scratch in the NHL.
Othmann would return to the AHL and play only three games with the Wolfpack before suffering an upper-body injury.
The fact that Othmann is back on the ice is certainly a positive development though as all signs are pointing toward the young forward making a return sooner rather than later.

Remember, Brennan Othmann getting cut doesn't necessarily change the pecking order for injury call ups. Assuming Berard is also sent down today, he will be the call up for a defense-first role. Othmann may get the call up for an offense/top-six role. Othmann would likely be the first call up in case Reilly Smith doesn't work out too. Nothing there has changed.
Can 2025-2026 be Othmann's year, if he doesn't get a call-up to the big club upon his return? Berard has already gotten a top-six look. I'd argue Othmann deserves the same respect.
