The New York Rangers and Jacob Trouba are arguably in a messy situation, as Trouba nixed a trade to the Detroit Red Wings in the off-season.

Of course, the reason was noble, as he is trying to ensure his wife Kelly's success in her Residency in New York. He decided to stay, and it made many people irate and Trouba unpopular.
For now, it seems Trouba will remain in the bottom-pairing defensively, for the Rangers, likely with Zac Jones to start the year.
Trouba is not a me-first at all player, which explains why he wears the "C" for the team. We have to expect Trouba will remain professional during the season as he will want to play before moving on in 2025.
He will have to play hard in order to save himself from further ire, from the team and fans really, but we shouldn't expect any less from his hard-nosed style of play which has been a constant in his career.
Honestly, the situation couldn't be more awkward for the defenseman but with Trouba's professionalism at the start of training camp, he will address it and it will be a non-issue. This isn't the first time a player and team have been on the outs, while the player nixed a trade elsewhere.
It will be a storyline for Trouba and New York throughout the season, of which he and his teammates will be asked about consistently.
What matters is, how he plays for the Rangers in 2024-2025 and shows the kind of passion needed GM Chris Drury and the team want to see while he still wears the Blueshirt.
