Goodrow had been a key bottom-six piece in the lineup while serving as an Assistant Captain for the team, a verifiable two-way forward for the Rangers. The decision to cut him loose must've been difficult.
But the team has to look forward, as they eye a deep Stanley Cup run in 2024-2025 and Goodrow wasn't a fit for that future, unfortunately.
Now that Goodrow's salary is off the books, the team has $12.1 Million to procure better players and fill gaps in the roster.
Some of the top free agents in 2024, are Sam Reinhart, Steven Stamkos, Jake Guentzel, Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Marchessault and Tyler Toffoli to name a few.
No word on what forwards pique Drury's interest, as the team has kept mum on who they are looking at.
Drury himself said that they are looking to be aggressive and nothing is off the board, as far as moves go.
With moving Goodrow, it is unclear as former President's Trophy winners whether they're a few pieces away from a Stanley Cup, but you have to assume the summer will be busy for the Rangers.
