Finalists For The Vezina Trophy Revealed
It should come as no surprise that the MVP of a hockey team is often the goalie. Since the goalie takes most of the shots during the game, it's crucial to choose the goalie wisely. The goalie can help a team come a long way by blocking most of the shots on goal. There have been quit a few incredible goalies in the NHL to date and they deserve recognition, which leads me to the Vezina Trophy.
The Vezina Award/Trophy is given annually to the best goalie in the NHL and is voted on by the general managers. This year, the candidates are Sergei Bobrovsky, from the Florida Panthers, Thatcher Demko from the Vancouver canucks and Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets.
While all three goalies have similar statistics with Hellebuyck leading at 37 wins, this will be Hellebuyck's first time being nominated. Meanwhile Bobrovsky has been nominated three times in a row and he has 36 wins. Demko is also a first-time nominee with 35 wins and it is also important to note that due to a knee injury on March 9th, he missed 14 games.
The information above along with other statistics provides general managers with a lot of important aspects as to why each should be chosen aside from the total win count. Who will they decide on? We shall have to wait to see. My vote is for Bobrovsky - the third times is the charm as they say. Who do you think should get the trophy?
