Kucherov MacKinnon and Matthews finalists for Ted Lindsay award

The NHL continues to roll out its finalists for each of its awards during the first part of May, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nathan MacKinnon the Avalanche and Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs are all finalists for the Ted Lindsay award.

The Ted Lindsay award represents the NHL's most outstanding player in the regular season which are judged by the players of the NHL players association. It's a highly regarded trophy as their peers are the ones who decide who gets this award.

All three players are excellent candidates as they have all lead their teams throughout the regular season. Kucherov, had his best total in points as he had 44 goals and 144 points through 82 games. He took his team on his back numerous times especially when they pushed to get back into the playoffs which they were successful.

MacKinnon was the undeniable leader of the avalanche and continues to dominate with his team as they are now in the second round facing off against the Dallas Stars. Throughout the season, he played all 82 games, scored 51 goals with 89 assists for 140 points and was a + 35.

Matthews led the league in scoring and will take home the Rocket Richard trophy for the third time in his career. He also transformed as a leader for the Maple Leafs as he is now the face of the team even as the Leafs faced adversity throughout the season due to heavy injuries.

No matter who is chosen, all three members are certainly worthy of this award and we will find out after the playoffs who will take home this prestigious trophy.
