NHL teams always enjoy the surprises that can crop up during the season especially when a rookie can outshine his expectations.

The Boston Bruins have seen that surprise when it comes to their rookie centre Matthew Poitras.

Poitras, has been an absolute gem for the Bruins as the 19-year-old centre who was drafted by the Bruins in the 2022 entry draft, second round 54th choice overall had been showing enormous upside and will be slated in the top 6.

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli of thedailyfaceoff.com announced the devastating news that Poitras has undergone shoulder surgery and will be out for the remainder of the season and up to five months.

With that news breaking, that adds the Boston Bruins into the mix for a top 9 centre which will crowd the teams that need the same position including the Rangers.

Two centre men have already gone to trade which is Elias Lindholm to Vancouver and Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets.

Only time will tell if general manager Don Sweeney pulls another rabbit out of his hat and make another historical trade for the Bruins.
