This season for the Penguins has been rather disappointing after newly appointed general manager Kyle Dubas made a Hail Mary trade by acquiring Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks to try to solidify his new core four model as he had in Toronto.

The team's play along with their goaltending has been less than stellar and the team continues to be on the outside of the playoff discussion which leads to serious talk on what the Penguins will do going forward into the offseason.

One player has made noise across the NHL as his name has continuously come up in trade talks with several teams.
Jake Guentzel, the talented forward continues to be the odd man out with the Penguins and has given them a reason to worry as he rejected their newest offer today for a new contract extension.
The 29-year-old left winger who has played his entire career with the Penguins was drafted in 2013, in the third round, 77th overall.
After recuperating from several injuries, he has been dynamite in terms of offensive talent as he is played 46 games this season, scoring 22 goals with 27 assists for 49 points and as a + 12.
As his final year ends, Guentzel is going to make the most of this moment and try to get every dollar he can for his numbers. This leaves Dubas with a choice.
Does he trade Guentzel now an attempt to get assets back as the team has been signalling for a retool or rebuild or push hard for a contract extension during the offseason with the potential for him to walk for nothing?
Rangers fans will be watching their archrival get squeezed and potentially lose this star talent to another organization where he may leave the Metro Division. No one would be upset about that.
