Tortorella Addresses Media On Crazy Sequence After Elimination
If you got to see hockey tonight, you were in luck!
The Washington Capitals clinched the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference in their 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
With that game tied 1-1, the Flyers pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, believing they needed to win in regulation to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
However, they had already been eliminated from contention when the Detroit Red Wings gained a point after their game against the Montreal Canadiens went to overtime, tied the score with only 3.4 seconds left which pretty much sealed the Flyers fate.
Flyers coach, John Tortorella shares that he didn't find out about the Red Wings forcing overtime and eliminating the Flyers until after he pulled the goalie, thus allowing the Capitals to clinch the final playoff spot. Take a listen:
An intense ending to what was a fun night of hockey!
The Rangers and Capitals will be facing off in the first round of the playoffs.
