GM Pat Verbeek could hold out Zegras for the best price if he can't find the right assets in return for the winger. But should he be ready to trade Zegras soon, he can find a new home for him soon.
According to NHL Insider Peter Baugh, Zegras has his eyes set on Broadway, MSG, and the New York Rangers as his preferred destination.
Zegras landing in New York could help revitalize the lineup and keep the team from slowing down, as they continue to age.
Four! Four of the top-six forwards in New York are approaching 30 years old and older.
Trevor Zegras could add vigor to the lineup, and mix it up in combinations with players like Filip Chytil, Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, Brennan Othmann, and Will Cuylle.
Zegras's cap hit could be considered expensive, at $5.75 M AAV, but wouldn't be considered an albatross, should Zegras experience a return to form. He put up an impressive 61+ point seasons consecutively early in his career, posting 20+ goals during those seasons as well.
With the Rangers trying to move Jacob Trouba and the Ducks' right-side defense being weak, could the teams make a deal that involves Zegras?
Zegras could be a net positive to the teams top-nine, if GM Chris Drury can make the trade happen.
It seems unlikely he will be with the Ducks before his contract lands, so keep an eye out for which team makes a move for the skillful winger.
