Sean Avery doesn't hold back as he issues a controversial statement on Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette
Sean Avery has reached his final form, as he has once again inflamed the discussion around the New York Rangers. The team has lost 8 of their last 10 and someone has to be blamed, and Avery the world's loudest armchair GM has something to say about it. He feels Peter Laviolette should be fired.
With reports that Sean Avery met with GM Chris Drury to put in an application for the Head Coaching job that isn't open in New York, he continues to run his mouth.
«I have officially submitted my application for the head coach position of the New York Rangers. I have already reached out to those I would like to have with me behind the bench» - Sean Avery
This time instead of taking shots at Rangers players, he's headed right for the source Coach Peter Laviolette.
Avery would appear on Barstool's "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast and was asked what he'd do with Coach Laviolette.
He wouldn't shy away that he'd fire him.
"I'd fire him today," Avery said. "Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. You have to, you have to, guys. In a big market like that, Eastern Conference Finals last year were that close. It starts.
Unfortunately, that's part of it. Yeah, the coach goes first, but that's where I get nervous."The coach goes, then who goes? Then, then who do you bring in? The whole system is broken, and the iPads on the bench. What do you want to see? You want to watch your release point on that one like, 'I need you in the game, fellas.'"
It's very Sean Avery at this point to make a media tour of how he feels about the Rangers in this moment.
While we seek to hold every Rangers player, and front-office executive accountable, maybe this is a bit much?
There is something to be said of former NHL Enforcers becoming winning coaches in the NHL, like Craig Berube.
But Avery is no Chief and has a divorced vibe(from a supermodel no less!) surrounding him that clouds his judgment that isn't necessarily wrong.
Let's all remember what Avery accomplished during his career in the NHL.
He played 580 games in the NHL, and has scored 247 points( 90 G, 157 A) and somehow managed to be a +16 during his career.
No Stanley Cups, and only played 15 games in 2011-2012.
While everyone should have standards for their teams, coaches, and players Avery seems compelled to make it his personality. Why isn't he already coaching in juniors if he seems so concerned about improving the game of hockey?
