The Detroit Red Wings have placed former New York Rangers forward, Tim Gettinger on waivers on Saturday.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman made the announcement on "X" as the forward is headed back to the AHL.

Last season the forward played a total of 55 games in the AHL with the Griffins and scored 25 points( 12 G, 13 A) with a -20 rating.

The forward has been placed on injured reserve at the start of the 2024-2025 season and has been recovering from a lower-body injury from last season's Calder Cup Playoffs.

Gettinger was a big part of the Griffins' success during the 2023-24 season. Along with prospects Jonatan Berggren, Simon Edvinsson and Sebastian Cossa, Grand Rapids finished second in the AHL's Central Division, clinching the franchise's first playoff berth in five years. Gettinger, who was in his first season with the organization, potted 12 goals and 25 points in 55 games. He did not register a point in eight playoff games.

Despite failing to register a point in the playoffs, GM Steve Yzerman found value in the depth forward.

He was signed to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775K deal in March.

In 292 AHL appearances, Gettinger has scored 74 goals and 84 assists for 158 points. He also notched eight points in nine games with the New York Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, during the 2023 postseason.

Gettinger only played 16 games with the New York Rangers scoring 1 point during his career in the NHL.

Gettinger was also selected in the fifth round by the New York Rangers in the 2016 NHL Draft and only played 8 games in the NHL, with the Rangers during the 2021-2022 season.

However, recent reports have confirmed Gettinger's fate as the New York Rangers and the all the other organizations have decided not to claim him off waivers.

As the Detroit Red Wings confirm that Tim Gettinger has cleared waivers and has been reassigned to their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids.
