New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has already revealed his true colours towards newcomer J.T. Miller after just two games with the Rangers organization.
The past couple of days have been long for J.T. Miller. The day after the New York Rangers re-acquired him from the Vancouver Canucks, the New York Rangers threw him into action right away.
J.T. Miller would play in their back-to-back against the Boston Bruins, and then the Vegas Golden Knights, and didn't let fans down.
«Didn't seem like it last night,» Laviolette said about if it was hard to integrate Miller. «He was good. There was a lot of information thrown at him, not a lot of rest, a lot of travel, everything new. He seemed to handle it like a pro. He was good.»
Laviolette put Miller on a line with
Mika Zibanejad, and
Artemi Panarin, along with giving him power play time. In his first game with the Rangers he recorded 18:48 of ice time, and then 18:23 in their second game.
Laviolette also revealed that the Rangers are going to ask more of him as time goes on, and plan on putting him on the penalty kill as well.
«We will, we will,» Laviolette said about whether Miller will play on the penalty kill at some point. «Again, just a lot of information, back-to-back games, things happen pretty quick. Just to get him into Boston yesterday was a lot of work. A lot of people just to get him there. A lot of information went at him, so just trying to get him on board with everything.»
A big reason Miller was traded from the Canucks was due to him being a problem in the locker room, and Laviolette revealed his true colours and feelings towards him after just two games with the New York Rangers.
Laviolette is not worried about what happened in Vancouver at all, and believes that Miller's personality and skill set, along with his veteran presence in the locker room will be a perfect fit.
«You're talking about a veteran player who's a real pro here,» Laviolette said. «Even though I haven't worked with him personally, he's been around a long time. You watch him play, you understand the game he plays. Easy player for a coach to like. He came in yesterday, was real receptive to the information and played a real good game."
