Flashback: On this day New York Rangers legend and hall of famer creates NHL history
Taking a look at a flashback from New York Rangers history as Mark Messier becomes the seventh player in NHL history to reach this milestone.
On this day December 4th 1995, Hall of Famer Mark Messier became the seventh player to reach this impressive milestone.
Back on Dec 4th 1995, Messier managed to tally a goal and two assists, in the New York Rangers dominate 5-1 victory over the visiting Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
The outstanding performance from the legend made him the seventh player in National Hockey league history to score 1,400 career points.
Now, today 20 players have achieved this feat as Messier joined other hockey legends such as, Gordie Howe, Stan Mikita and Phil Esposito.
Messier would go to add an additional 487 points to finish his career with 1,887 points, third all time behind a couple fellow New York Rangers, Wayne Gretzky and Jaromir Jagr.
To continue with Messier's impressive career, just six years later, on the same day Dec. 4, 2001, Messier had an assist in the Blueshirts unfortunate 5-2 loss against the Washington Capitals.
But with doing so he also became the seventh player in to score 600 points as a member of the New York Rangers.
Truly a remarkable player as he even won six Stanley Cups, five of them with the Edmonton Oilers and one with the New York Rangers.
Messier is the only player to have captained two NHL franchises to championships, which is just an absolute testament to his leadership abilities, and what he has accomplished in his career.
