Former New York Rangers veteran being targeted by multiple Stanley Cup contenders
Former New York Rangers forward is gaining a lot of attention from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Veteran forward Blake Wheeler still ramains unsigned as the NHL preseason is just about a month away.
However, according to recent reports, one being from Shawn Hutcheon of Fourth Period, the Boston Bruins could potentially offer Wheeler a professional tryout (PTO) contract..
"A source close to the situation has told me the #NHLBruins are considering extending PTO (Professional Tryout) offer to forward Blake Wheeler, and Kailer Yamamoto" Hutcheon wrote. Then things get interesting as NHL insider, Elliotte Friedman reported on his Latest 32 Thoughts' column that was published on August 24th stating that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to add another winger to their roster.
"I think there are things percolating out there, including Toronto considering left-wing options," Friedman wrote.
At 37-years old, Wheeler is a 16-year NHL veteran who's best playing days are likely over, but he's still a valuable asset due to his experience and leadership, something that could really benefit the Maple Leafs.
Just last season, Wheeler played 54 games for the New York Rangers and managed to record 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists), and only made one appearance during the Rangers playoff run.
