The New York Rangers are one of the most heavily scouted teams currently in the NHL as they took on the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre with 11 scouts present in the press boxes.
Friedman reporting there were talks on a JT Miller trade today with the Rangers that have since slowed
Both the Canadiens and the Rangers are teams that are having many discussions and evaluations on what they'd like to do over the coming few months as the NHL trade deadline looms.
Rangers and Canadiens have big decisions ahead
From the Canadians perspective, many feel that the team who was run by former Rangers president Jeff Gorton may trade several of his free agents as the team has improved over the past number of weeks and have improved their value on the trade front.
Canucks Interested in Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere.
Gorton along with his staff need to make their decision on whether to add to their roster as they feel they may be ready for a playoff spot or sell off other players and continue their rebuilding phase.
The Rangers on the other hand, are in a position that no one expected as they are currently out of a playoff spot but have been heating up over the past couple of weeks since their dreadful December.
Rumors continued to fly around the Rangers that a major trade is imminent between the Vancouver Canucks and the Blueshirts as there is a strong possibility that the Canucks are willing to move JT Miller back to the Rangers.
Two key names revealed in Rangers/Canucks trade talks
This rumor was confirmed from Elliotte Friedman of the 32 thoughts podcast when he spoke during Saturday Headlines on hockey night in Canada that a trade was in the works but has been rescinded for the time being.
Both Teams have much to offer others if they decide to sell
It remains to be seen whether general manager Chris Drury will make a trade sooner or later but it's likely the team is preparing for many phone calls that will be imminent especially if the team falters again in the standings.
The Rangers have eight games remaining before the NHL comes to a halt for the Four Nations face off. The team will face several opponents better above them in the standings it will be a test on how they will fare.
It's expected that many scouts will continue to watch the Rangers with the trade deadline less than a month and a half away.
