At least that's what it feels like. Prior to last night game, it's interesting to note that Kaapo Kakko has yet to record a single point the first two games played this season, and was the only member of the Rangers' top six to not record a point.
Now of course last night against the Arizona Coyotes, he produced an assist, along with Mika Zibanejad, but aside from that, he was nonexistent throughout the game.
Nonexistent might be the wrong word. More like he's been quiet. Kaapo Kakko hasn't played poorly.
He's done nothing that's been detrimental to the team. He's a +1 with seven shot attempts in three games, and now an assist.
The puck just hasn't reached the back of the net yet for him. But the Rangers' could be more lethal offensively if he's able to produce the way we think he can when he was inserted into the first line.
He is playing on the first line with the team's most lethal scorers, Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, and has been a member of this line for only three games so far.
Kaapo Kakko will need to get adjusted to their style of play. Might be too early to worry as the season is still young. But it is a thought worth wondering, if a breakout season is still in the works.
The Rangers will play their second home game at Madison Square Garden, against the Nashville Predators, on Thursday, October 19.
