According to Kevin Weekes of ESPN, Shesterkin reportedly rejected an eight-year deal worth $88 million and carries a $11M AAV, making him the highest paid goalie ever in NHL history.
However, a recent report has surfaced from Mollie Walker of The New York Post that Shesterkin and his camp are not pleased that this information was leaked.
This type of report certainly puts a lot of pressure on Shesterkin right before tonight's opening game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, as the pressure is now to get an extension done quickly and to continue to play at a high level, so everyone from fans to management believes he's worth more than $88 Million.
This is now the second negotiation between a goalie that has been made public as Jeremy Swayman's contract negotiations went public and quickly turned the situation into a mess, simply just added more pressure to these star goaltenders
Despite multiple reports that suggested the Rangers would stop negotiations until the next offseason if a deal wasn't finalized before the start of the regular season, it appears that might not be the case as NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Rangers don't seem to care about the reported regular season deadline to finalize a deal with Shesterkin.
In the meantime it still remains uncertain if Shesterkin and the Rangers will continue to work on a contract extension throughout the regular season or wait until the offseason.
