The New York Rangers have just shaken up their roster as they traded their captain and defenseman Jacob Trouba, shortly after GM Chris Drury made it clear that changes were coming.
On Friday evening, the Rangers dealt their captain and defenseman Jacob Trouba and his full $8 million cap to the Anaheim Ducks, for Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 4th round pick.
On the same day the New York Rangers also finalized a record-breaking contract extension with superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
According to Jim Biringer of rg.com, a source has told that the Rangers aren't done dealing with the Ducks, as they are targeting Frank Vatrano. Who played 22 games with the Rangers back in 2022.
Since leaving the Rangers during free agency and joining the Ducks, Vatrano has made a name for himself in Anaheim, with a career high of 37 goals last season.
Biringer also stated that Vatrano might have been the return in the original Trouba trade that happened on Friday, but the Rangers desperately wanted to clear up Trouba's $8M cap hit.
The two teams talked about a potential deal for Vatrano during last seasons trade deadline, but the Rangers «didn't want to part with Kaapo Kakko» at the time. But things are changing so now it might just happen.
Biringer continued to stay that the New York Rangers have identified Vatrano as a player «who could bring that much-needed spark to their lineup.»
Which is true as, The Rangers are currently 14-10-1 and in 4th place in the Metropolitan Division, far below everyone's expectations this season.
