The New York Rangers may not have to trade Matt Rempe after all, the bruising forward finally played a responsible game against the New Jersey Devils this week.

Rempe is the hometown favorite in Madison Square Garden, and his presence on the ice is nothing short of electrifying.

After serving his eight-game suspension he arrived in MSG to an eruption of cheers.

Rempe would have all eyes on his every move that night, as the power forward has grown from just an enforcer into a personality fans love.

Remy Mastey describes the energy of MSG well:

The energy and attention that Rempe draws from the crowd is simply mind-boggling. Everyone at Madison Square Garden can feel Rempe in the building and both the fans and team feed off of it.

Rempe would register 4 hits that night, and play 11 shifts, with 7:47 TOI played that night.

He'd play on the same as Adam Edstrom and Sam Carrick.

«I thought Rempe came in and gave us good minutes,» Laviolette said. «Put the puck behind him, tried to play physical, it was good.»

Carrick would score a goal with Rempe on the same line, as we know how dominant he can be on the ice if he sticks to being a force on the forecheck.

While in the NHL he may not be an offensive weapon, he can create space on the ice for players like Carrick who do.

Could we see the towering forward in the lineup for every game in Madison Square Garden after last night?

For one, you have to think Laviolette is keeping track of how he plays and wants to see him practice responsibility on the ice.

The Rangers have brought him up into the lineup sooner than we expected slotting in last night.

And he should keep that in mind, as the Rangers feel he's a player that they need to win games and maintain control of the puck throughout the night.

«I gotta still play my game, but it can't happen again or else it's going to be a huge suspension,» Rempe said. «I gotta be a lot smarter, I don't have to make every hit if that makes sense. I gotta be able to pick my hits I gotta be a bit more controlled.»

«If there is any way in doubt, I should veer on the side of caution for now. I'm a marked man right now, so I gotta keep it clean.»

Rempe has owned up to his mistakes and it seems last night was a demonstration of that accountability.
