Must see: Louis Dominque makes his bid for save of the year during season debut
The New York Rangers' Louis Domingue is known for his cooking. What he cooked up against the Chicago Blackhawks' Taylor Hall was nothing short of flavorful, as his save is an easy contender for save of the year.
The Chicago Blackhawks were unable to mount a comeback thanks to Louis Domingue's effort in the net today.
The Rangers were able to hold onto the lead and defeat the Blackhawks 6-2 in an original-six matchup, for the 600th time in their history.
With
Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve, the Rangers had to rely upon a call-up, Louis Domingue who has spent the majority of the season in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack.
Today though, he created a highlight save that should be nominated for "Save Of The Year". As he dashed former Hart Trophy winner, Taylor Hall's hope of a goal today.
The shot originally hit Will Borgen, and he made sure to shut the door on Hall, as it bounced off of Borgen and hit it with his blocker, and used his stick to fling it away from the crease.
The save itself, is highlight reel worthy for the Rangers this season, as Domingue pulled off a save we don't see often.
This season with the Hartford Wolfpack he's only played 14 games, with a 4-9-1 record, a 3.64 GAA, and an ..888 save percentage.
Domingue only played one game for the Rangers last season where he also posted a win with a 1.00 GAA and a .962 save percentage.
With numbers like these in the NHL, he's served his purpose well and today continues the trend of being a goaltender who can be counted on in tough times.
Domingue earned an league minimum $775K, and will be a UFA at the end of 2024-2025.
Will GM Chris Drury extend him?
