New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe has been the source of outrage after a hit from last night's game.

Rempe would demolish rookie Jake Neighbours when the St. Louis Blues player didn't have the puck. It was a poorly planned hit by Rempe and would cost the Rangers a power-play by the St. Louis Blues.

With 3:44 left in the third period and the Rangers down 3-2, Rempe nailed Blues forward Jake Neighbours with a cheap hit in the neutral zone. The unsuspecting Neighbours did not have the puck and was woozy getting to his feet.

While coaches generally love the intensity, this was an instance of recklessness on the ice from Rempe.

The Blues would fail to convert on the power play, but with Jim Montgomery behind the bench, they would win 5-2. The play leaves us all wondering what Rempe was thinking since Neighbours was nowhere near a puck.

The Rangers are in dire straits, after a disappointing road trip, and now a loss to a rebuilding team like the Blues.

«Chaos from Rempe,» PK Subban said on Instagram.

After the team lost 6-2 to the Edmonton Oilers, GM Chris Drury ramped up trade talks placing Chris Kreider, and Jacob Trouba on the block.

This kind of play doesn't make Rempe look good, and may as well have signed his ticket back to the AHL after playing so undisciplined.

If Rempe doesn't shape up, he'll find himself in the AHL long-term, and his hard work during the summer will be for nothing.
