The battle of New York is set to begin a Sunday Matinee as the New York Rangers host the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden.

Both teams are on the opposite sides of the Metropolitan division as the Rangers continue to push for first place, while Islanders head coach Patrick Roy and his squad try to build their winning streak as they hold a record of 4-5-2 with 10 points.

The Islanders suffered significant blows as they placed center Matthew Barzal on injury reserve as he is expected to miss four to six weeks which is adding to the losses of other players including their defenseman Adam Pelech who will also be out for the same amount of time.

It has been noted that Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello has been scouring the league for help as his team continues to suffer the injury bug. Patrick Roy spoke about losing his players and felt the team will need to dig deeper and look for ways to win games without them.

«It really sucks losing guys, but at the same time, this is the reality of today,» Head Coach Patrick Roy said. «We need to find ways to win games, and I trust this room. This is a strong room. This is a room that guys care. It's a room that has a lot of leadership.»

The Rangers will need to buckle down and get back to their style of hockey as they have been outshot severely over the past two games. They managed to eke out a win against the Ottawa Senators 2-1 but they were badly outshot 41-18. This trend is not a winning formula as the Rangers continue to lean on Igor Shesterkin to bail them out.

It has been confirmed that Shesterkin will play today against Ilya Sorokin. Game time will be at 1:00 PM eastern. The game will be seen on the NHL Network and MSG.
