The New York Rangers as a team have accepted mediocrity as their modus operandi. The team has rested on their laurels, as they are 8th in the Metropolitan Division, and succumbed to the Tampa Bay Lightning last night.

We should retire the term "No Quit In NY" as it looks as if, the team has decided to give up on the season, and themselves.

NHL Insider Larry Brooks posted this "hot-take" and given the way the team has played their last 18 games, it's hard to disagree with them.

They're 4-14-0, and we demolished as Sam Rosen called his last game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Amalie Arena last night.

Absolutely shameful for Rosen, who has been a stalwart for Rangers fans, who have listened to his play-by-play the last 40 years.

Ownership and management had no stomach for this. The hierarchy was not going to allow this flawed core to fire another head coach less than two years after beseeching GM Chris Drury to dismiss Gerard Gallant in May of 2023, 11 months after going to the conference final.

But that's what this splintered core has effectively done even if Peter Laviolette remains behind the Rangers bench much like a broken general pleading with his troops not to desert the battlefield. It is only a matter of time, whether it is this week, next month or the moment the season ends.

Could this spell doom for the Rangers and Head Coach Peter Laviolette?

The team could do so much better with all the supposed firepower they have in the lineup, but for some reason have gone dormant.

This isn't the same team that Gerard Gallant took the playoffs, or Laviolette won President's Trophy with.

It's a team that has given up on the idea of competing, and winning.

The Rangers are 16-18-1, and 8th in the Metropolitan Division. The "quit" has permeated the locker room.
