The New York Rangers are coming off an impressive 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders, but the Blue Shirts are making headlines for another significant reason. According to reports, the Rangers recorded the most most hits in a game over a 3 year span.
Although the 2024-25 NHL season hasn't exactly gone according to plan, the Rangers are slowly getting hot a precisely the right time.
During their last game against the New York Islanders, the Blue Shirts showed a ton of grit and tenacity, a clear sign that the team has no intention on giving up quite yet.
New York Rangers record most hits in over 3 years
I think it's pretty safe to say that the NY Rangers laid a beat down physically, and on the score sheet.
The Rangers recorded 47 hits against their fellow city foe; the number was monumental in that it was the most hits the Blueshirts have posted in a game in over three years. The last time the Rangers recorded over 40 hits in a game was on March 9th, 2021 in Pittsburgh against the Penguins. In the National Hockey League, the Rangers' 47 hits is the fourth highest total so far this year.
Before the game, Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe made himself available for his usual interviews, highlighting the significance of this game between their biggest rival.
Matt Rempe - said the game had high stakes which likely led to the physicality.
"Big win, first one I feel like after the break probably," Rempe said. "Hopefully we just keep building. All of these games are so important now, especially against a bitter rival like that. It's big. Every single one of these games over the next so many nights, we've got to build."
With their season now on the line, it should be interesting to see if the Rangers can keep up this level of impressive physicality.
The boys are clearly fighting for their season -- and a shot at the playoffs is entirely possible if they keep this up.
