The Rangers have already started making some moves this offseason, with signing forward Kaapo Kakko to a one-year deal worth $2.4 million and clearing up $3.6 million in cap space by placing veteran forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers, that led him to be claimed by the San Jose Sharks.
However, the Rangers are not finished making moves this offseason as they are desperately looking for a winger for their top line, and another possible option has just emerged.
Florida Panthers forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who is currently one win away from the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, and is rumoured to not be returning with the organization next season.
Panthers' general manager Bill Zito has a very tight budget moving into next season, with next-to-nothing available in cap space. Many key players are due for pay raises, and unfortunately leaves Tarasenko is the odd-man out.
With the Rangers looking to secure experienced players who are not looking for long-term contracts, and with Tarasenko being a former Rangers he would be a great fit as he checks off all the boxes the Rangers are looking for.
This could be a smart move for New York as they try to build a strong team around their young talent.
