Rangers forward Chris Kreider managed to avoid a suspension after throwing Matthew Tkachuk's mouthguard into the stands.

While watching Kreider throw Tkachuk's mouthguard into the crowd was amusing, it could have definitely led to something more serious.

However, many fans believe Kreider actually threw his mouthguard over the glass, but NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has officially revealed the truth with a recent statement:

«I know it's a hilarious story but it's not true. Kreider did not throw Tkachuk's mouthguard into the crowd,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said. «It went straight up and it landed on the ground. He may have been trying to do it but he failed in his attempt.»

According to the NHL rule book, if Kreider were to actually throw the mouthguard into the stands he would be suspended one game.

«If he was trying to do it, he's lucky he didn't do it,» Sportsnet's Jeff Marek said. «A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on a player who intentionally throws his stick or any part thereof or any object or piece of equipment outside the playing area. He saved himself a game misconduct on that one.»

Thankfully the 33-year old forward wasn't suspended as he's been a crucial member of the Rangers success throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and will definitely be needed for game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
