Peter Laviolette addresses the media and expresses his concerns with the Rangers organization
The New York Rangers are in 5th place in the Metropolitan Division, and you have to wonder if Peter Laviolette is feeling the heat. According to the Head Coach, it's all about course correction.
While the New York Rangers are 5th in the Metropolitan Division, with a 15-14-1 record in the league, Peter Laviolette is focused. Instead of thinking about his own job security, he's plainly stated that he wants to focus on things he can control.
The Rangers have been in two slumps this season, and have won the only 3 of their last 13 games this year.
One would think that he is well aware of his own situation, as GM Chris Drury is moving pieces around.
Most recently, Jacob Trouba was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, for Urho Vaakanainen and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft.
Laviolette may be focused on the right things, but his recent choices of lately are puzzling. Scratching Kaapo Kakko was one choice that makes us wonder how aware of the lineup he really is.
And does he deserve to feel secure in the role as Rangers head coach?
The team's production has fizzled up Laviolette and it looks as if they've given up on the front office.
Empire Sports Media makes a great point about his decision to scratch Kaako.
Of Kakko's 14 points, 12 have come at 5v5. That's the same amount that Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad have combined - and they average far more ice time than Kakko. He's also better than both defensively with a +10, while the past-their-prime lovebirds have a combined -19. If anyone should have been scratched, it should have been Kreider or Zibanejad - not your best 5v5 skater. Apparently, the Rangers need to re-evaluate every facet of the organization as the rot has permeated from the top-down.
We think, it just isn't Peter Laviolette whose rotten, it might be GM Chris Drury too.
