P.K. Subban calls out former Rangers goaltender Steve Valiquette following hot take on Jack Hughes
Former Montreal Canadiens star and hockey analyst P.K. Subban calls out former New York Rangers goaltender after recent comments on Jack Hughes.
Monday night the New York Rangers faced off against their divisional rivals, the New Jersey Devils and took an embarrassing 5-1 loss on home ice.
Following the game former New York Rangers goaltender and analyst Steve Valiquette had a few words for New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes.
The New Jersey Devils linemates Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes ran a clinic on the Rangers during Monday night's contest as they put up a combined seven points.
However, Steve Valiquette called out Jack Hughes for trying to attempt a backhand deke while on a breakaway against Igor Shesterkin.
Steve Valiquette accused Jack Hughes of trying to embarrass Igor Shesterkin on a breakaway tonight, and Jack's response was straight up confusion
Valiquette's take on Hughes has sparked a reaction on social media, such as the New Jersey Devils who made fun of Valiquette's take and the New York Rangers with a post-game clip:
«All peaks, no valleys tonight.»
Now, Valiquette's take as sparked a reaction from P.K Subban as he voiced his opinion with a video on X stating the following:
"... With all due respect to the 46 games that Steve played in the league, Jack Hughes is a premier player in the National Hockey League who has the ability to do things that less than 1% of athletes can do on this planet....," Subban said.
"We need to give him leash to do that," Subban said about Hughes. "As the media, we need to uplift it. That's my job. And that's your job, Steve.I get the homorism. Let's put that aside. What Steve's really doing,
though, is addressing the New York Rangers and that guys should be fired up about the situation..."
Ultimately Subban is right, as media needs to uplift younger players to be bold and showcase their skills rather than tearing them down. But again Valiquette's take isn't exactly wrong as there's a time and place to try and pull something off like that.
Now it's the responsibility of the New York Rangers to turn things around and keep pushing forward and come back with a better response during their next game.
Which will be on Friday night against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:30PM.
