Rangers insider provides an update on the Peter Laviolette's position as the New York Rangers head coach.

Recently there had been a lot of speculation that reinstated NHL head coach Joel Quenneville was getting close to making a return.

Along with many reports suggesting the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings were his two top destinations.

Last week GM Chris Drury sent a memo to the team, and named players who are available for trade in hopes this would spark the team.

Clearly this has backfired as the New York Rangers have only gotten worse as they have lost the last six out of their seven games.

But does this mean that head coach Peter Laviolette's job is on the line, and that Quenneville is going to take over?

According to Rangers insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post, he believes there is no chance this will happen.

He revealed that there has been no contact between the parties and there will be no contact, at least for this season.

Brooks then continued to state that Laviolette's job is safe and the Rangers are «committed» to their head coach so they won't just ditch him.

Regarding Laviolette, Larry Brooks said it best. «This core doesn't get to fire another coach.»

Laviolette is in his second season out of three year contract behind the bench, Last year, he went 55-23-4 and led the team to the Presidents Trophy with the best record in the NHL.

It's been a rough start so far this season, as the Rangers are 13-10-1 and in 4th place in the Metropolitan Division.
