It's been revealed that an Eastern Conference enforcer has been identified by the New York Rangers as a potential trade candidate as Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins maybe on the trade block.
The Bruins season has not gone according to plan, and it appears the teams wheels are about to fall off as they continue to spiral down in the standings and their play continues to worsen. It's likely that general manager Don Sweeney may look to some of his forwards and prepare a sell off which will be a great opportunity for Rangers general manager Chris Drury.
Frederic would be an excellent candidate for the Rangers as he would provide secondary scoring as he usually resides on the third line. He's known to play heavy has he had 204 hits last season and he's also known to put the puck in the net as he had scored 35 goals over the last two seasons and carries a a modest contract as he is on his last year of his $2.3 million AAV which was two seasons long.
With these numbers, Sweeney will find it difficult to re sign him as he will seek more money. The Rangers would have an opportunity to land him at the trade deadline and help bolster their lineup as they prepare for another run at the Stanley Cup.
The 26-year-old forward would likely land the Bruins a decent return even on a final year of his contract. But it remains to be seen on how the Bruins will handle the remainder of their season as there is still plenty of hockey left to play. When Frederic Is made available there's no doubt that jury will give Sweeney a call and ask what the asking price is.
