During a quiet day of hockey related news, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Nashville Predators made some noise by trading McDonagh back to the Lightning.
Many assumed this trade was the Predators clearing up space for Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner, as this rumour has been speculating since the Leafs were eliminated by the Bruins in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. However, according to Predators insider, Alex Daugherty this wasn't the reason at all.
Apparently McDonagh's trade isn't even remotely related to the cap reasons, but rather to accommodate a request by Ryan made earlier this season. After being eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round Mcdonagh looked for team that would best suit himself and his family, landing back to Tampa Bay.
Much respect to the Nashville Predators for accommodating one of their veterans request, even though it meant sending him back to place where he won the Stanley Cup twice.
