The New York Rangers are in a bind, they're last in the Metropolitan Division and could re-tool the lineup soon. With a dismal 16-18-1 record in the NHL, could they move a key player, Mika Zibanejad.
According to NHL Insider Larry Brooks, the New York Rangers continue to look to drastic measures in order to improve the lineup.
One of those options could be to move former 1C for the Rangers, Mika Zibanejad.
GM Chris Drury has been working the phones lately, as he's acquired
Urho Vaakanainen, and Will Borgen in trades lately. While moving out former Captain
Jacob Trouba, and 1st-round pick,
Kaapo Kakko.
It's not unreasonable to believe that GM Chris Drury could seek to reshape the team's identity through trades.
In 35 games played for the Rangers this season, he's only scored 21 points( 6 G, 15 A) a 49-point pace.
Who could be interested in the 31-year-old with a full no-movement clause attached to the contract?
There's been rumors spreading that
Zibanejad could end up in the West, or could be brought into the Canadiens organization by the same executive who traded for him, Jeff Gorton.
According to D'Amico, discussions have taken place between the Rangers' GM and a team from the Western Conference for the services of the 31-year-old veteran.
However, what could hinder negotiations is that Zibanejad, who was recently named to Sweden's team for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in February, is under contract for five more seasons with the Rangers with an annual salary of $8.5M.
Could trade talks pick up after the Four Nations Tournament ends in February, and could he be wearing a new uniform by the trade deadline?
