The National Hockey League has just disciplined a player from the New York Rangers vs Edmonton Oilers game last month on Nov. 23.

The NHL has made the shocking decision to issue a $2,000 fine to a forward from the Edmonton Oilers for diving. This being the second time he had done this.

The NHL fined Oilers forward Jeff Skinner $2,000 for the embellishment during the game against the New York Rangers on November 23rd.

The NHL has issued a $2,000 fine to #oilers forward Jeff Skinner for embellishment. That means he's been cited for two diving offences: A warning for an Oct. 22 game against Carolina and the fine for a Nov. 23 game against the N.Y. Rangers.

Definitely a shocking decision, as the NHL is sending a clear message to player who like to dive and gain an unfair advantage.

However, it's not the most expensive fine these players will have to pay but it simply makes a statement to everyone in the NHL, that the league is also watching and is ready to put an end to embellishment.

Here's what Rule 64 in the NHL rulebook states following players who purposely dive:

"Any player who blatantly dives, embellishes a fall or a reaction, or who feigns an injury shall be penalized with a minor penalty under this rule" the NHL states.

While it might seem surprising to see a fine, the NHL does have a system for these types of incidents.

It might seem surprising to see a fine for such a silly incident, the National Hockey League does have a system for these types of things.

Definitely great to the NHL trying to put an end to embellishment, and by handing out fines and penalizing players.
