The New York Rangersgot lucky when they scooped up Sam Carrick during free agency. Known as a depth forward with some grit in the NHL, has suddenly turned into one of the Rangers' best contributors lately.
The New York Rangers signed free agent Sam Carrick during the off-season to a 3-year, $1 million AAV deal.
The expectations for Carrick were low at first, but since then he's punched far above his weight fo the team.
He's been a fixture on the bottom six lately after
Jonny Brodzinski failed to stay in the lineup.
He's played 45 games for the Rangers this season as a depth forward and has contributed 13 points (4 G, 9 A) and his play has caught the eye of Coach Peter Laviolette.
Laviolette loves his style of play, which is every coach's dream a 200-foot play where he contributes at both ends of the ice.
«Sam has played terrific as of late,» Laviolette said. «He is not only doing a job defensively and physically, but contributing offensively. He's been a top contributor offensively lately and that's great when you can get that balance from your lines. It takes everybody.»
The 32-year-old former Edmonton Oilers has found his responsibility on the ice increase, as his TOI has jumped from 11:08 to 18:26 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Nothing says trust when your coach hands you more time on the ice.
In these four games, the veteran forward produced two goals, three assists and five points.
Carrick was signed to a 3-year, $3 million total contract that expires in 2026-2027 and it makes you think, how soon do you think GM Chris Drury extend him, if he continues to play like he has?
